FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do I decide which math course to take?
There are several ways in which you can get help deciding on the course you
should take.
- If the course you are concerned about is Calculus I or lower, link to
the information page on placement tests.
- If you are concerned about which courses to take to apply to a Math degree,
see the requirements listed on the mathematics
undergraduate home page
- If neither of these answers you question, see a faculty member in the
Department of Mathematical Sciences. Call 303-556-8442 for an appointment.
- Do I have to take the placement test
before I register for Math 1070, 1080, 1110, 1120, 1130 or 1401?
Currently you do not have to take the exam before you register. However,
if you are registered for Math 1070, 1110 or 1401 you will need to take
and pass the appropriate AccuPlacer exam or you will be disenrolled from
the course. See the placement tests
web page for more information.
Also on the placement test web page are advisory placement exams for
Math 1080, 1120 and 1130. These are not mandatory but will tell you if
you remember the necessary prerequisite material.
- I don't want to / can't take the uniform
final on the Saturday it is scheduled. What must I do to take
it at another time?
The department expects everyone to take the uniform final on the
date that it is scheduled. Registration for the course implied that you
consented to this. If there are reasons beyond your control that prohibit
your taking it at the assigned time, you must get permission from both the
instructor and the Associate Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
- Whom do I see to approve a course I took at another institution as equivalent to a math course at UCD? What
information must I bring to this person?
If you are a CLAS non-math major, you should start with the academic advisor in your major department or with CLAS Advising Office (North Classroom 2024) or with the Academic Advising Center in North Classroom 1503.
You should bring a course description which includes the prerequisites for
the course. Course discriptions of the prerequisites may also be necessary.
If you have any of your work done during the course, that would also be
helpful. If the institution at which you took the course is not a accredited
institution of higher education in the United States, you will need to provide
information about that institution.
