Policy on Earned Credits
Students may earn credit toward a degree for knowledge gained prior to enrollment or for knowledge gained outside traditional college courses.
Advanced Placement
As of January 2008, credit is awarded as follows. For the most
up-to-date requirements, please see Earned Credit Information.
- A score of 5 and 4 will receive credit.
- A score of 3 is acceptable ONLY if there is a letter grade
of "A" in the last semester.

- Students should contact their academic advisor to have the credit
appear on their transcripts.
International Baccalaureate
Students who have taken International Baccalaureate (IB) standardized exams may be eligible for university credit.
- IB standardized exam scores of seven, six, five, or four will
receive credit for core curriculum.
- Individual credit can be given for IB courses if the IB diploma
program was not completed.
- Students completing an IB diploma program shall be awarded 24 credit
hours, minimum, in accordance with HB 03-1108.
- Departmental review will determine the amount of credit given or the
equivalent course.
- Students should contact their academic advisor for specific details
concerning IB credit.
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
As of January 2008, credit is awarded as follows. For
the most up-to-date requirements please see Earned Credit Information.
Students should contact their academic advisor for details about
where and when CLEP exams are offered and about the exam fees.
- CLEP credit can be awarded
for College Algebra (MATH 1110), Trigonometry (MATH 1120),
Precalculus (MATH 1130), and Calculus 1 (MATH 1401).
- To receive academic credit from CLEP,
students must have their CLEP transcripts sent to
University of Colorado Denver directly from the College Board.
Credit by Examination
Students with sufficient experience and knowledge may receive credit for a specific course by taking a comprehensive examination given by the faculty.
- The student must be formally working toward a degree at University of Colorado Denver, have a GPA of at least 2.0, and be currently registered.
- A non-refundable fee is charged.
