To take the exam

I. Go to Science 130 at the beginning of your Math 1999 section. You may be able to use a computer at a different time but you are running the risk that all the machines will be taken. In any even, make sure you are there at the beginning of the hour.

II. You must have a picture ID with you to show to the lab TA.

III. Ask the lab TA (they will be wearing name tags) to log your terminal onto the testing system.

IV. You will see a "Test Check" icon in the middle of the screen. Click on it.

V. The program will open. Click anywhere on the picture.

VI. Click the Login button and type in your name (first name then last name). If the system does not recognize the name, it will give you a list of names that are close. If your name is not there, then ask a lab TA to set you up with a temporary name. You will be added to the system by the next exam.

VII. If the system asks you what grade you are in, that will be your section number (section 001 is equivalent to grade 1, etc.)

VIII. You must then enter your password. Your password is the first initial of your last name, the first initial of your first name, the last four digits of your student number. For example: If your name is Peter Jones and your student number is 231-89-7135, your password would be JP7135.

IX. You will then get to your assignment page. You must next choose "Work on Assignments" and then choose your exam. The exams are called ch1, ch2, etc. Make sure you choose the right chapter because once an exam is started, you must finish it in one setting.

X. Follow the directions that come up.

XI. To choose an answer, just click on it. If the answers go beyond the page, use the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate.

XII. The arrows at the lower left corner get you from one question to another. You can move backwards as well as forwards through the exam.

XIII. When you are done, click the "Scoreboard" button. This will give you a summary of your answers as well as telling you how much time you have left. You can click the "Score Now" button to finish or you can click the "back" button to continuing working on the test.

XIV. The computer will grade you test and show you the results.

XV. You can then quit the program. A printout of your results will be sent to the printer. Pick it up to hand in to your instructor.

The is a practice exam set up for the first chapter. You can go to the lab at any time after 8/27/01 to take it.
